VISION
To inspire and educate women to become Nation Builders in the legacy of the Famous 5.MANDATE
Through a sponsorship from Enbridge Inc. the Famous 5 Ottawa Committee was founded in 2007 as a non-profit organization dedicated to inspire and educate women to become Nation Builders in the legacy of the Famous 5.
The Famous 5 Ottawa Committee holds a series of luncheon events honouring prominent women who lead. In October, we host our annual signature event to honour the Governor General's Persons Case Award Recipients as Nation Builders. Our annual luncheon on International Women's Day is very well attended as is the annual event in June.
The Ottawa Famous 5 Committee has an active outreach program in the community, sending the Governor General's Persons' Case Award Recipients to local high schools encouraging young people to be nation builders. We also provide a tour of the Famous 5 monument on Parliament Hill and of the House of Commons to Cornerstone, an emergency women's shelter. The Famous 5 are an inspiration for many Canadians with their courage, determination and promise of a better Canada.
The Ottawa Famous 5 Committee is beginning to explore a new frontier, working to develop a research project - in partnership with Equal Voice and other national organizations - to review barriers to women achieving their full potential in public life.
The Ottawa Famous 5 Committee welcomes volunteers and would be appreciative of your views, ideas and help.
