Veteran, General, Chief and Commissioner Celebrated as Nation Builders

A veteran, general, chief and commissioner will be honoured as nation builders at a joint luncheon hosted by Famous 5 Ottawa in partnership with Women in Defence and Security on October 26, 2016.

The four prominent Canadian women - Canadian Forces veteran and MP Karen McCrimmon, Lt. General Christine Whitecross, Communications Security Establishment Chief Greta Bossenmaier and Canadian Coast Guard Commissioner Jody Thomas - will participate in the Enbridge Famous 5 Ottawa Speakers Series where they will chronicle the road they each took to reach some of the highest positions in Canada’s defence and security sector, a field generally dominated by men.

“We are proud to host these highly accomplished women who deserve to be recognized not only for what they have done professionally but for who they are personally,” said Isabel Metcalfe, chair of Famous 5 Ottawa.

“These women are providing balance to the traditional look and feel of leadership in the defence and security world.  We are pleased to acknowledge their important contribution to our country,” said Kristine Osgoode, President of Women in Defence and Security (WiDS).

“We are honoured to profile these extraordinarily successful women as they speak candidly about their leadership journeys, passions, and determination to rise to the tops of their fields,” said Roxanna Benoit, Vice President, Public Affairs and Communications, Enbridge.

Karen McCrimmon, who was the first woman to command a Canadian Forces flying squadron and is currently the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs an Associate Minister of National Defence, will moderate the luncheon panel, which will be held at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa.
