Famous5 Ottawa is partnering with TD Bank on a monthly Lunch and Learn program at Youville Centre aimed at motivating pregnant and parenting adolescent mothers with stories of inspiration and encouragement.
Youville Centre, based in Ottawa, provides young mothers with crisis intervention, intensive mental health therapy and treatment, parenting programs, a licensed child development program and a fully accredited secondary school.
The TD Bank Famous 5 Ottawa Lunch & Learn Program at Youville will bring in women from the community to chat about their lives and career paths in areas such as the trades, the armed forces, government work, entrepreneurship and other vocations. The goal of the program is to provide encouragement, suggest skill development and practical strategies, support goal setting and share stories of overcoming adversity as women.
“Participating in the Lunch and Learn series is an opportunity for Youville Centre’s young mothers to be inspired by authentic women in our local community who have experienced real life adversities,” says Cindy Simpson, the executive director at Youville. “There are many active hands involved in the success of Youville Centre and its programs; and we want to thank TD and the Famous5 for their contribution.”
Famous5 Ottawa is a volunteer group that celebrates the achievements of women who have made significant contributions locally, nationally and internationally. It mentors and encourages young women to consider a career in public life; provides inspiration and education to young Canadians about nation building; and celebrates the contributions of ordinary women who achieve extraordinary results.
“We are delighted with our new partnership with TD bank,” says the chair of Famous5 Ottawa, Isabel Metcalfe. “The TD Famous5 program at Youville will help these young Moms become more self-sufficient and consider future ways to provide for their families.”
